Transcranial Electrical Stimulation in Stroke EaRly After onset Clinical Trial 2 (TESSERACT 2)

Treatments for acute ischemic stroke are limited to reperfusion via intravenous lytic and/or endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). Cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation (C-tDCS) is a non-invasive technique that provides neuroprotection by inhibiting peri-infarct depolarization, apoptotic and inflammatory cascades and by enhancing collateral perfusion. However, the optimal dosing with adequate safety and maximize effects remains unknown.

TESSERACT 2, a multicenter, randomized, sham-controlled, phase 2a, adaptive dose-optimization trial of HD C-tDCS in acute stroke. The goal is to identify the safest of six HD C-tDCS doses with a substantial effect on salvage of tissue around the stroke.

Recruitment

We are actively enrolling participants with aphasia within 6 hours of ischemic stroke.
